Jack working on stacking activity

Jack during french

Jack's first finger painting

Jack learned a great deal in the "Parent and Tot" program that we just attended twice a week from April 12th until June 29th. The program was offered at Northwood Academy Gallano Campus (the school that I use to teach at - different campus). It was awesome!
Some of the things Jack accomplished during the program:
1.) He perfected his walking - I remember very clearly watching Jack when he just got up and started walking across the classroom...little shaky...but he went pretty far the first time on his own!!! I was across the room speaking with another parent. It was so amazing. At home he was cruising all over the place and taking a few steps - but at school he just got up and went for it!!
I guess seeing all the other little kids walking around freely, touching what they wanted, going where they wanted was just enough to get him up and moving!
2.) He created his first finger painting (which was lost by the teachers - so we painted a few more and I have one framed!! urrrgh so upset about that :(
3.) He learned how to do the stacking activity. He just walked over to it one day - it was left on the table by another child..and he started working with it. Now he loves the activity!
4.) He learned how to sit in the circle for a few minutes with his peers for morning songs! truly he usually sat on my lap the entire time otherwise there would be no sitting. This is not to be expected from a one year old. He did like to dance "in the circle" especially during French!
5.) He learned how to sit on a chair- with assistance getting up and in- to work on an activity or have snack (in the beginning he was sitting on my lap). Now at home in his playroom he climbs up onto his little chair and then slinks down onto it and then slides his little legs under the table! and he works on his stacking activity! (which I leave at the table since he loves this activity right now).
6.) Mastered getting in and out of the play car. He did this for a few days for sure! He loved this car. Still too small to walk it around the play yard like the big boys...but he surely leaned how to get in and out of it.
Over all school was an amazing experience! Jack really blossomed. There are things that children learn and need to learn from their peers. Some we wish they would sooner not experience (like pushing/pulling/etc)
however we have to take the good with the bad. I will definitely be taking him back in September if they run another Parent and Tot program or I will find one in our neighborhood.
